McDonald's App and Rewards

Almost every discount McDonald's runs now lives in the app. Points are earned on every order at 100 per dollar, and the four redemption tiers are worth more than most people assume. The app is free on iPhone and Android, and both store pages are linked below.

100 Points per dollar On orders placed in the app
$15.00 To the first reward 1,500 points
3 Meals to get there At $5.29 a meal
4 Redemption tiers 1,500 up to 6,000 points

What Each Tier Is Actually Worth

Points are quoted as numbers, which hides what they buy. Each row converts the tier into spending and then into the most expensive item it covers at current prices.

Tier Spending to reach it What the tier offers Smart pick
1,500 points $15.00 McChicken, Cheeseburger, Hash Browns, Vanilla Cone McChicken at $3.79
3,000 points $30.00 Small French Fries, Sausage McMuffin, Sausage Burrito Small French Fries at $4.49
4,500 points $45.00 Filet-O-Fish, Hot Fudge Sundae Filet-O-Fish at $6.59
6,000 points $60.00 Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Big Mac, Hamburger Happy Meal, Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Quarter Pounder with Cheese at $7.89

Tiers and their lineups are McDonald's own and shift a little by restaurant; prices are our verified medians. The smart pick is simply the dearest item in the tier, since every redemption costs the same points. The coupons page works the same tiers out as an effective discount rate.

Getting Set Up

  1. 1

Download the app and create an account

The McDonald’s app is free on the App Store and Google Play. An account is what holds your points, so ordering as a guest earns nothing.

  2. 2

    Set your restaurant

Deals and prices are pulled for the restaurant you pick, because both are set locally. Changing the restaurant changes the offers you see.

  3. 3

Order through Mobile Order and Pay

Build the order in the app, choose curbside, counter, drive thru or delivery, then check in when you arrive. Points are earned on the whole order.

  4. 4

    Let points accumulate

Every dollar spent earns 100 points, and they build in the background with no action from you. Redeem the low tiers as they open: our tier table shows the 1,500 point rewards return the best rate.

  5. 5

Redeem at a tier that suits the order

Pick the reward before you pay. The tier list in the app shows what each level covers at your restaurant, and the items differ by location.

What the App Does

Deals tab

Rotating offers built for the restaurant you have selected. Change the restaurant and the list changes, which is why no website can publish an accurate national version.

Mobile Order and Pay

Build and pay for the order in advance, then choose curbside, counter, drive thru or delivery. The menu is the restaurant's own, so no markup.

Rewards points

Earned automatically on app orders at 100 per dollar. They build in the background with no effort on your part.

Arch Card payment

A McDonald's gift card can be stored in the app and spent on an order, and that order still earns points.

Restaurant finder

Hours, services and the current wait vary by branch. Our locator covers the same ground across every state if you want it without the app.

Delivery that keeps points

Ordering delivery inside the app earns and spends points, which ordering the same food on a third party platform does not.

Where the App Genuinely Saves Money

Against a delivery platform, clearly. Third party menus are priced above the counter before any fee, so ordering the same food in the app avoids the markup and earns points at the same time.

Against the counter, it is the deals and the points. The menu price is identical either way, so the app wins on what it adds rather than on what it discounts.

Know the Prices Before You Order

130 items with real prices and full nutrition, so a points tier turns into a decision rather than a guess.

App and Rewards Questions

How do MyMcDonald’s Rewards points work?

You earn 100 points for every dollar spent on a qualifying order placed through the app. Points are redeemed at four tiers, starting at 1,500 and rising to 6,000, and each tier offers a set of items rather than a cash discount. Which items appear at each tier is set by your restaurant.

How long does it take to earn a free item?

About 3 orders at the price of a Sausage Biscuit Meal Deal ($5.29). The first tier is 1,500 points, which is $15.00 of spending, so a regular meal habit reaches it inside a fortnight.

Do points expire?

Points lapse after a period of inactivity rather than on a fixed date, so an account that keeps ordering keeps its balance. The current terms live in the app under the rewards section, and they are the version that applies to your account.

Is the app cheaper than ordering at the counter?

The menu price is the same, since Mobile Order and Pay uses the restaurant's own menu. What the app adds is the deals tab and the points, neither of which you get by paying at the counter. It is meaningfully cheaper than a third party delivery platform, where the menu itself is marked up.

Can I use the app for delivery?

Yes. Delivery inside the app is fulfilled by a partner courier, and unlike ordering on a third party platform it still earns and spends rewards points. The delivery page covers how the two routes differ on price.

Do app deals work at every restaurant?

No, and this is the part that catches people out. Offers are set for participating restaurants, so the deals list changes when you change the location in the app. A deal seen at one branch may not exist at the next one along.
